Vernon Community Arts Center Presents The World of Puppetry

Why are puppets so intriguing? They take on a life of their own, even when the puppeteer is in full view. Experience their magic at the Vernon Community Arts Center through The World of Puppetry, an exhibit in collaboration with the Ballard Institute and the Puppet Arts Program at the University of Connecticut running from September 8th until October 5th. Join us on September 8th from 1:00-4:00 for the opening reception. Everyone is welcome.

Be sure to come to the three puppet show performances by the students of the Puppet Arts Program on September 14th at 2:00, September 22nd at 2:00 and October 5th at 7:30. Enjoy a performance Sunday, October 13 at 2:00 by professional puppeteer Jim Napolitano and his Nappy's Puppets.

If you've caught the fever and want to make your own puppets, participate in the Shadow Theatre Workshop on September 21st, 1:00-3:00, or the Toy Theatre Workshop on September 28th, 1:00-3:00. These are intergenerational workshops intended for children, parents and/or grandparents.

Finally, learn about life Behind the Puppet Stage at a lecture by Dr. Bart Roccoberton on September 29th.

Gallery hours from September 12th through October 5th are Thursday through Sunday 1:00-5:00.

For details about the performances and to register for the workshops, please visit our website: vernonarts.org or contact the VCAC by phone at: (860) 871-VCAC (8222). All events are free, $5.00 donation suggested.

This project is made possible by a grant from The Greater Hartford Arts Council and funding from The Vernon Arts Commission.
