Rockville Doubles up on Rocky Hill in Girls Tennis

The Rockville High School girls tennis team swept the doubles competition en route to a 4-3 win at Rocky Hill on Thursday. Here is the match summary: Singles • Sidney Greenspan (RH) def. Why Running Up the Score Is a Classless Thing To Do

OK, I agree that stiffer competition can make a team better in the long run. I get that. It’s why the younger brothers and sisters of siblings involved in sports often show advanced skills early on. So there we were on a Saturday afternoon at a lacrosse tournament with teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. I got the feeling that the team from Long Island wasn’t making the trip to lose to a team made up of mostly football players and former baseball players (as one mom perfectly stated). I’ll make a crazy assumption that the team from LI spends the entire calendar year playing together as a unit. They could have been blindfolded and still have known where their teammates were. Ellington Golf Remains Perfect Against Rockville

The Knights knocked off Rockville on Tuesday.

The Ellington High School golf team defeated Rockville High's golf team 162-205 on Tuesday. Mike Thibodeau, from Ellington, was the medalist with a 38. Kyle Gresh shot a 40, Greg Ussery shot a 41, Jeff Bird shot a 43, and Jon McPartland shot a 47 for the Knights. RHS Lax Program Washing Cars on Saturday

The car wash is a fund-raiser for the program.

The Rockville High School lacrosse program is conducting a car wash on Saturday. The car wash is slated for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sears Hardware, 19 Pitkin Rd. The team says the forecast of the "perfect car wash weather - bright and sunny." Proceeds will benefit the team.

Vernon School Board Endorses Rockville-Bolton-Coventry Hockey Co-op

The application will now be sent to the CIAC.

The Vernon Board of Education on Monday endorsed a plan to form a new hockey cooperative with Bolton and Coventry high schools. The vote was unanimous. Once the application is signed by Rockville High School Principal Eric Baim, it will be sent off to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference's Co-op Committee for review. Baim is serving as the point person for all CIAC correspondence regarding the co-op. Bolton and Coventry education officials have already signed off on the plan. Baim said the Central Connecticut Conference athletic directors have approved the co-op. Rockville had been playing with Stafford and Manchester high schools, but that co-op has been dissolved, RHS Athletic Director Steven Phelps told the Board of …

Vernon Little League Minor League AAA Division May 10, 2012 Vernon Police Association 15, Signature 7 Police: outstanding player - Daniel D'Alessandro. Game ball - Cole Zewinski and Tyler Stoner. Signature: outstanding player, game ball - Samuel Odlovich, D'Shaun Grisby. Vernon Police Association met Rockville’s Signature Home Improvement for a makeup game after a rainout. Both teams were sluggish on the mound in the first inning because of the long break between games due to many days of rain. Outstanding players for VPA were Dan D’Alessandro for his pitching as well as Cole Zewinski and Tyler Stoner for their line drive hits. Local Runners Part of Record-Setting SCSU Relay Team

The mark was set at the New England meet.

Two area student-athletes were part of the Southern Connecticut State University 4x400-meter relay team that set a school record at Saturday's New England meet in Boston, the school's athletics Web site has announced. The time was 3:49.58. The 4x400 relay team consists of Nyoshee Lowry of Danbury; Ashley Bell of Riverhead, N.Y.; Rachel Van Gilder of Enfield; and Brittany Niemczyk of Vernon.
