The business is again siting safety concerns.
The barn door has now closed on the Rockville High School senior prom too. Like with the junior prom last week, the Garden Barn is not opening up its gazebo area for pre-prom pictures tonight, again citing safety concerns. The area had been a popular spot for prom pictures for about a decade. Last week, members of the garden center's management team said the Saturday before Mother's Day was just too busy and hinted that a week later might be OK for the seniors. The owners were even considering publishing a set of guidelines for pro-goers. But on Thursday Garden Barn staff member Scott Doughty just said no. "It's not about rules, it's about safety," he said. "This time of year is just too busy here." When asked where pro-goers were …

The Vernon Board of Education is being asked to consider a new hockey co-op with Coventry and Bolton.
The Vernon Board of Education is being asked on Monday to put in place a piece of a complicated puzzle that will help put a shattered high school hockey program back together. Rockville High School Athletic Director Steven Phelps is asking the school board to approve a cooperative agreement with Bolton and Coventry high schools to form a new team. RHS had been playing with Manchester and Stafford High Schools, but in a letter to the board dated May 8, Phelps said that co-op "was experiencing difficulty obtaining an adequate number of competitors to form a hockey team." Rockville-Manchester-Stafford reached the CIAC Division III quarterfinals last season. RHS Principal Eric Baim said that co-op has been "dissolved," and that the application…

The traditional Garden Barn photo-op spot is not an option for the RHS junior prom on Saturday because the place is expected to be flush with Mother's Day shoppers.
Vernon's version of the Oscars' red carpet has to be pulled out from under the Rockville High School junior prom this year. Chalk it up to Mother's Day. The Garden Barn, the unofficial official gathering place for prom-day photos for the past decade, is asking RHS students and their dates not to visit its gazebo area on Saturday because of concerns the area will be overrun with Mother's Day shoppers. To many in town, taking prom photos at the Garden Barn is like playing the Masters at Augusta National or running the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The Garden Barn has become hallowed ground for prom-goers over the past 10 years. But prom-goers could be on a collision course this Saturday with customers shoppers, and that's a game of …
