Obituary: Joseph John Minich

Joe was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving for 6 years with the United States Navy aboard the USS Midway.

Joseph John Minich, 60, a resident of Vernon for over 31 years, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his residence. He was born and educated in Cleveland, OH a son of Helen (Blasko) Minich Tomsik of Cleveland, and the late George Minich, Sr. Joe was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving for 6 years with the United States Navy aboard the USS Midway. He was employed as a sales associate for the past four years with Sam’s Club of Manchester. Joe was previously employed for many years as the manager of the former Vernon Lanes Bowling Alley. He was a NASCAR enthusiast, an amateur photographer, and loved to tinker with computers and surveillance equipment and installations. Kathy Shaughnessy Jambeck, 55, of Storrs, former University of Connecticut adjunct professor and Connecticut Writing Project/Storrs director, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 surrounded by her family and with her beloved husband and son by her side. She was born July 6, 1956, in Norwalk, Conn., the daughter of John R Shaughnessy Sr. and the late Anne Straniti Shaughnessy. Passionate about medieval literature, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Keene State College in 1978 and a master’s degree in medieval literature from the University of Connecticut in 1982. Florence T. (Titus) Betters, 81, of Vernon, beloved wife of Donald Betters, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012. She was born June 10, 1930 in Broad Brook, the daughter of the late Andrew A. and Ardell (Staskabich) Titus. She was a member of the Emblem Club of the Rockville Elks. She enjoyed playing cards with her husband at the Ellington Senior Center. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Ardell Elinskas of East Windsor. She was predeceased by her step-father, Frank Gondek. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Catherine’s Church, 6 Windsorville Road, Broad Brook.
