Two Businesses Hosting Fundraisers and Vernon Hosting a Disaster Drill

Fund-raisers and a major disaster preparedness drill highlight the week in Vernon. 

And the Board of Education is meeting. 

The school board is scheduled to gather at 7 p.m. on Monday at the school administration building. 



On Tuesday, American Eagle Federal Credit Union and the Vernon Diner are teaming up for a Dining for Charity fundraiser.

Vernon Diner will generously donate 10 percent of its sales between 11:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. to benefit the American Eagle FCU Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

The Ninety-Nine Restaurant in Vernon is conducting a Silent Auction of interior paraphernalia through Wednesday, Aug 21 with all funds going to the Vernon Public School System.  

The auction items will make way for a refreshing new look at the Vernon restaurant that will be unveiled at the end of August.

Vernon is hosting a major, regional mass casualty disaster exercise on Thursday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., on the RHS campus. The drill is entitled "I.M.P.A.C.T. 2013" for "Integrated Municipal Preparedness and Collaborative Training."

Vernon police and emergency management officials said the event will be a "full-scale exercise" that will involve dozens of patients with moulaged injuries and props to make the scene as realistic as possible.
