RDA on the Recruiting Trail for Cleanup Day

Volunteers being sought for the annual downtown cleanup event, scheduled for May.

The event is not scheduled until May, but already the Rockville Downtown Association is looking for volunteers to commit to the 11th-annual Downtown Cleanup and planting Day.

''It's a great day for us all to come out and support Downtown Rockville and help make it the beautiful place we know it is,'' says Cliff Edwards, the RDA's executive director. ''It's a great community cause and we need the support of as many people as possible.''

The cleanup day is scheduled for Sunday, May 15, from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Traditionally, cleanup day volunteers are a mixture of  families, teen groups, business owners and seniors.

Volunteers are asked to assemble at the RDA, 30 Park Place, next to Town Hall, at 12:30 p.m. for work assignments.

Some supplies will be on hand, but volunteers are asked to bring their own rakes, shovels, gloves, hats and buckets.

For more information, call the RDA at 860-875-7439 or visit the organization's Web site at www.rdact.com.
