HVCC Conducting Food Drive Friday Through Tuesday

The food drive is taking place at both Stop & Shops.

The Hockanum Valley Community Council is conducting its second post-Alfred emergency food drive for its Tri-Town Food Pantry Friday through Tuesday at the Vernon and Rockville Stop & Shops. They are located at:

• 10 Pitkin Rd.

• 20 Windsorville Rd.

HVCC staff members and volunteers are generally on hand from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accept donations. Before and after hours, crates will be available at both locations for drop-off donations, HVCC officials said.

After Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene and winter storm Alfred, the pantry's supplies have been depleted. The pantry has been in need of:

• Cereal
• Macaroni and cheese
• Spaghetti sauce
• Pasta or rice side dishes
• Cans of peas, carrots, beets and spinach
• Jelly or jam
• Cans of stew, Spam, chili and hash
• Gelatin  and pudding
• Pancake mix and syrup
• Cans of peaches or pineapple
• Ketchup and mustard
• Cans of beans
• Canned pasta
• Soup

The pantry is also looking for sponsors to feed families for the holidays. A small family basket can be put together for about $30 and a large family basket costs about $60.

Individual turkeys and hams can also be donated.

Cash, checks and grocery gift cards will also be accepted, HVCC officials said.
