Bev's Corner: A Quiet Option Downtown

Bev's Corner is part drop-in center, part coffee house ... and a community living room.

Perhaps the quietest option for those coming to the Rockville phase of the July in the Sky celebration tonight is Bev's Corner.

Bev's Corner used to be known as the “Annex” to the Union Congregational Church. It is at a corner - 3 Elm Street to be exact - between the church and the Park Place strip that houses most municipal offices.

Bev’s Corner is a drop-in center that is open to all. It's part drop-in center, part coffee house, part study hall.

Lounge might be a bit of a stretch when describing it, but one can certainly walk in, sit down and relax for a while.

OK, how about a community living room?

The motto at Bev's Corner is, “quench your thirst” with “drink for your physical thirst and living water for your spirit.”  Bev’s Corner is run by Larry Meehan,  named in honor of his late wife, Bev Meehan. Bev was a member of Union Congregational Church and a longtime resident of Ellington. She died in 2007 after a long  battle with cancer.

For more than three years Larry Meehan, has run the drop-in center. It is open to the public and it not only a quiet haven for individuals, but it is a place for groups to meet without charge.

Bible studies - open to all - are offered from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The center is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For more info, go to:  www.unionchurch.us

On the first Friday night of each month, Bev’s Corner is home to Jacob’s Well, a Christian coffeehouse that has become a popular downtown option.

Doors open at 7:00 PM and usually ends about 9:30.  Drinks and snacks are free.  For more information about Jacob’s Well, please go to: www.jacobswellcoffeehouse.com/
