Arctic Splash Slated for Saturday

The event is a fund-raiser for a local camp program and the HVCC.

As the water temperature at Valley Falls pond gets colder and colder, the Arctic Splash gets closer and closer.

The third-annual version of the event, sponsored by the Vernon Parks and Recreation Department, is on tap for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Valley Falls Park.

The event benefits the Send a Kid to Camp program and the Hockanum Valley Community Council. Those diving into the cold pond water are asked to collect a minimum of $10 in donations.

Awards swill be handed out for both the best costume and the most money raised by donations.

Those in the fifth grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

T-shirts will be given to those who pre-register. Registration forms must be returned no later than Dec. 1 to the parks and recreation office, 120 South St.

A bonfire will be lit to warm plungers, weather permitting and refreshments will be served.
