Vernon School System Gets $260,000 to Balance the Books

A town meting endorsed the use of health care reimbursements.

Voters at a special town meeting on Tuesday granted town officials permission to send $260,000 to the Board of Education so it can balance its books for the fiscal year ended June 30.

Special education and magnet school tuition obligations were the major factors in sending the school system's financial ledger into the red for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

The $260,000 is from reimbursements - both actual and anticipated - from some school system health care accounts, Finance Officer and Treasurer James Luddecke said.

The accounts assist special education students, he said.

The vote at the special town meeting was unanimous.
