Meet the Top Two Students in the RHS Class of 2013

They will be heading to WPI and UConn.

Let's meet the top two students in the Rockville High School Class of 2013:

Peter Melander, the valedictorian, is the son of Donald and Barbara Melander. This fall, he will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

From the moment Peter started his freshman year, he has been involved in the school.  He has participated actively on the Math Team for four years, and recently he participated in the ARML (American Regions Math League) competition at Penn State University, which was one of his greatest experiences.

Also, Peter has been very involved in the band program at Rockville.  He has played in the marching band, jazz band, symphony band, and pep band for four years.  He has played in a number of regional and state-wide ensembles and recently performed with the National Association for Music Education All-Eastern Honors Band.

Peter has been a member of Rockville's As Schools Match Wits team since its formation his freshman year, and he has been an important piece in its success.
He is a member of a number of organizations including Link Crew, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. Peter plays on Rockville's boys tennis team as well as the Parks and Recreation basketball league.

Outside of school, Peter is very involved with Boy Scouts, and he is in the final step in achieving Eagle Scout status.  He would like to thank everyone who has shaped him into who he is, and he would like to wish them all good luck in their future endeavors.

Lisa Mueller, the Salutatorian, is the daughter of Peter and Gail Mueller. This fall, Lisa will be attending the University of Connecticut. Lisa is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. For the past four years, she has been involved with the Service Club and the Math Team.

Her involvement with the school’s creative writing program has given her the opportunity to be honored by the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the Edith Wharton Writing Competition, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Young Playwrights Festival, among receiving other writing awards and opportunities to be published in writing journals.

Lisa’s other accomplishments include receiving the Harvard Book Award, the Society of Women Engineers Award, and the COLT Spanish Award. Lisa really enjoyed co-writing the school’s annual murder mystery.

She participated in athletics at RHS, including soccer, track, and the town’s ski club. Outside of school, Lisa enjoys being a Peer Minister, attending Youth Group events, and singing in the choir at St. Bartholomew Parish. She also enjoys studying piano and violin. Over the summer, Lisa volunteers at Vernon Manor Health Care Center. She appreciates all of the amazing skills and experiences that Rockville High School has given her over the past four years.

She is grateful for all of the teachers who have influenced her and is proud of her fellow classmates for all of their achievements. She congratulates them for what they have accomplished and will accomplish in their futures.
