Maple Street School Principal Taking 'Short Leave of Absence'

A letter is being sent to parents.

The new Maple Street School principal has taken "a "short leave of absence," Superintendent of Schools mary Conway confirmed on Tuesday.

Conway was drafting a letter to parents on Tuesday morning.

Pamela Barker-Jones was hired on August after longtime principal Lois Posell took central office position. Parents said they witnessed her leaving the building on Friday. She was accompanied by a union representative, but only because she was taking her computer with her to perform some work at home, Conway said.

She was not "escorted" out of the building, Conway said, dispelling some rumors.
"I expect that she will be back," Conway said.

Barker-Jones had met with Conway earlier.

Lyn Gandolf, a former administrator in the Vernon system, will serve as interim principal and begin on Wednesday, Conway said.

Regarding teachers' personnel files, Freedom of Information law stipulates that only disciplinary records are to be disclosed. Conway on Tuesday said the leave does not apply to a disciplinary matter.
