Lake Street Principal Moving to Central Office Position

Robert Testa is the new STEM coordinator for the local system.

Lake Street School Principal Robert Testa is moving on up to a central office position in Vernon.

Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway said on Friday that Testa has been named the new science, technology, engineering and mathematics - STEM - coordinator for the local school system. Testa announced his move in a letter to the Lake Street School community on Friday.

Testa has been at the school nine years.

"I want to express my appreciation for the honor of serving the students of Lake Street School," Testa wrote in his letter. "My tenure … has been a great one because of the wonderful families and students I have interacted with. It warms my heart to think that I may have played a small role in their successes."

Conway said Testa had expressed an interest in a central office position even before one was available. He will simultaneously enroll in the University of Connecticut's Executive Leadership program, which prepares administrators to one day become a superintendent, Conway said.

She called Testa's appointment "wonderful news."

"I know he is beloved in the Lake Street community," she said. "And I know they will be mourning the loss of him as principal. But I think it is wonderful that he will be able to work in this role in the administration."

Testa said in his letter that, "My new position will come with many opportunities allowing me to grow in a field that I love."

Conway said Testa will switch over to his new role on July 1. The current STEM coordinator, Christopher Ozmun, is taking a elementary principal's position in Waterford, closer to his home, Conway said.
