Board of Education Hosts Annual Awards Ceremony

The Board of Education last week recognized students systemwide for their achievements at its annual awards night at Rockville High School. 

Here is a summary of the evening's festivities: 

Recognition of Alica Biske
$5,000 Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship
Alicia was chosen as one of three seniors in Connecticut to receive a $5,000 Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship. She was also honored at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, May 19th and entered onto the Hood Sportsmanship Hall of Fame. Alicia is a four-year volleyball player and she was chosen as captain of the varsity team.

CABE Student Leadership Awards
Erin Dlubac — Erin is a highly motivated senior at Rockville High School who has earned High Honors every quarter of her high school career and has become a member of the National Honor Society. She is a four year member of our Agriculture Education Program and the FFA Organization. Academic awards she has won include excellence in AP US History, AP Language and Composition, Agriculture Education, English 10, World History, Earth Science, English 9, and Health. FFA awards include Chapter Vice President, Chapter Open House Committee Chair, State Degree, Chapter Reporter, Chapter Public Relations Chair, Greenhand Degree, and Chapter Degree. Other awards she has won include the George Eastman Young Leaders Award, Yale Club Book Award, Public Speaking Awards, E. Stevens Henry Award, CCC All academic Team, and the Journal Inquirer All Academic Team. Activities she has been involved with include Peer Ministry at St. Batholomew’s Church, RHS Math Team, RHS Outdoor and Indoor Track Teams, RHS Cross Country, and the National FFA Organization. Erin has volunteered her time with the American Brain Tumor Association, MACC Shelter, Cooper Food Pantry, Bolton Veterinary Hospital, Hollywood Equine Summer Camp, St. Bartholomew’s Church, and First Congregational Church of Vernon.

Ryan Fujimoto — Ryan is the definition of a well-rounded twelfth grade student. Throughout his time at Rockville High School, Ryan has consistently earned above aver-age grades while being involved in various clubs and activities throughout the school. Most recently, Ryan served as the drum major for Rockville High School’s award-winning Marching Band and was a motivator, leader, and cheerleader for his peers throughout football games, parades, and competitions. Ryan stands out as an individual who has the ability to positively influence those around him with the leadership qualities he innately possesses in addition to those that he was acquired through the experiences he has been involved with.

Rockville High School Hockey Team Recognition
The Bolton/Coventry/Lyman Hall/Rockville Boys Ice Hockey Team posted a 17-1-2 regular season before entering its first appearance at the South Division Central Connecticut Conference Boys’ Ice Hockey Tour-nament. They played a flawless game against Hall /Southington winning 6-0, in their first conference tournament. Coach Stevenson felt his players should be proud and prepared to take on their upcoming state tourna-ment opponents. The “BCR” team eventually lost to Newington/Berlin/Manchester in the State Division III Hockey Tournament 1-0. Even though it was heartbreaking, the players should still feel good about themselves finishing the season as state runners-up with an overall record of 20-2-2.

World Language Student Awards
The World Language Department congratulates our French students who were among the 100,000 who took the National French Exam in March.

In the French II Exam,
Manane Adoyi placed 5th in the state and 5th in the nation.Renee Rogan placed 9th in the state and 9th in the nation.Brianna Markunas placed 12th in the state and 12th in the nation.Madison Beach placed 14th in the state and 12th in the nation.Mathieu Roy placed 19th in the state and 12th in the nation.Mohamed El Tahawy placed 25th in the state and 12th in the nation.
