The Urban Archeologist: Always room for one more at the table

Ah the simple life. Well, maybe not so simple. I knew when I saw this image, I had to capture it. Iconic of a society, of a lifestyle we don't see too much anymore.

Take a look at the image and see if you can tell the story of how this gathering came together. Wedding? Christening? Sunday dinner? I lost count at 42 dinner guests and marvel at the Olympian effort to assemble that table and wrangle that crowd.

Photographs, even paper copies, have fortunately managed to last through the ages.  In one hundred years I don't want my great grandchildren to be watching trillions of news clips preserved to represent the past. No, I want them to see these, and wonder if maybe it's something we can get back.
