Rockville Falls In Extra Innings to Simsbury, 3-2.

Rockville makes comeback against Simsbury but lost in extra innings on Friday.

The Rockville High School softball team lost a close game to Simsbury on Friday by a score of 3-2. 

The Rams scored a late run in the bottom of the seventh to get the game to extra innings but a solo home run shot from Simsbury’s Carly Williams in the top of the eighth inning was enough to get Simsbury the win.  Williams pitched all eight innings for Simsbury as well.

Rockville tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when speedster Emily Burg stole home from third to tie the game with two outs.  Coach Frank Levick sent Burg while Wiliams was just getting the ball back from her catcher after a pitch.

 “Emily is a fast runner so I just decided we should go for it and Emily made the play,” Levick said.

Rockville utilized Burg’s speed all game with stolen bases and solid running on the bases.  The Rams scored the first run of the game in the first inning with a sacrifice bunt by Brianna Levick.  Then two RBI hits from Simsbury’s Sasha Moraski gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth inning, Williams came up to bat and belted a shot over the outfielder’s heads which would eventually end up being the game winning run.

Rockville’s starting pitcher Kaitlyn Lajoie pitched all eight innings for the Rams.  Lajoie started off hot striking out the first five out of six batters for Simsbury.  Lajoie ended the game with eleven strike outs.

Rockville’s (9-4) next game is a rematch at Rocky Hill on Monday at 7 p.m.  In the prior meeting this season, the Rams beat Rocky Hill 7-4 in Rockville.  Simsbury (6-6) will next play Southington at home on Monday at 6 p.m.
