Rams Off and Running on the Court

New coaches are on the bench.

The Rockville High School boys basketball team under new coach Nate Martins hit the hardwood on Dec. 20, at Hall High School in West Hartford for its season opener. The team came away with a victory, edging Hall High 73-67.

The Rams led at the end of three quarters 54-42 when Hall fought back to take a brief two point lead in the fourth quarter. The Rams quickly regained the lead and never looked back. Rockville was led by Tarchee Brown (25 points) and Tyler Johnson (23 points) with Jacob Kennedy adding (14 points).  

The rest of scoring was made by Sean O’Gara (5 points), Adam Barselau (2 points), Brian Ducas (2 points) and Raheim Huff (2 points).  

The Ram JV team under new coach Art Thomas suffered their first loss where the Rams Freshman team under the direction of new coach and 2010 Rockville High Alum Brian O’Gara won their first game. On Monday Dec. 23, the Rams took on Bloomfield High School at home and came up short with their first loss 75-63.

Tarchee Brown led the Rams with 22 points, followed by Jacob Kennedy with 12 points and then Tyler Johnson with 11 points. Brian Ducas scored 7 points with Raheim Huff adding 8 along with Andrew Foreman three point bucket.

The JV and freshman teams also recorded losses. 

On Dec. 27, the Rams took on the South Windsor Bobcats at home and finished on top with their second win of the season 84-82. It was a scoring duel between the Rams Tarchee Brown of Rockville and Kewan Smoot of South Windsor who both put up 29 points each. Jacob Kennedy added 18 points along with Tyler Johnson 13 points followed by Brian Ducas and Adam Barselau who both added 8 points with Andrew Foreman who scored 5 points. The JV and freshman team also recorded another loss.    

The Rams are back on the court this week as they will face Wethersfield High this Monday evening at home on a rescheduled game that was postponed due to last Friday’s snowstorm. The freshman game will start at 3:45 p.m. followed by the JV game at 5:30 with the varsity game following at 7 p.m. Senior Captain Sean O’Gara who was out injured for the Bloomfield and South Windsor games is expected to return this Monday.
