Former UConn Men's Basketball Player Makes Court Appearance
A Rockville Superior Court judge reviewed Jamal Coombs-McDaniel's charges Thursday morning.
Former basketball player Jamal Coombs-McDaniel told the Associated Press on Thursday that his had nothing to do with his decision to transfer from UConn.
On April 21, UConn Police found Coombs-McDaniel and two Boston men in possession of 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a package of cigars used to smoke marijuana, according to an arrest report. Two weeks later, the university announced Coombs-McDaniel would be leaving UConn, citing his desire for more playing time.
During his appearance Thursday morning in Rockville Superior Court, Coombs-McDaniel applied for admission into the state's drug education program, according to the Associated Press.

If he is accepted into the program and successfully completes the required classes and community service, the charges would be cleared from his record.
Coombs-McDaniel is scheduled to next appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 15.
