Bloomfield Shuts Out Rockville

The Rockville High football team struggled against visiting Bloomfield, falling 33-0.

Injuries and miscues were some of the major factors in the Rockville High School football team's failure to reach the end zone in its game against Bloomfield High at home.

Bloomfield quarterback Michael Campbell threw three touchdown passes and ran for another one to lead the Warhawks to a 33-0 victory over the Rams.

Rockville struggled in the red zone on offense going 0 for 3, including attempting a pass that was picked off by Bloomfield’s Patrick Modest and returned for a touchdown.

Rockville head coach David Jedidian said that the injuries have caught up to his team and it is hard to compete with the speed and athleticism when players are getting injured.

“It feels like I’m trying to put band aids on areas (of the team) while others areas are opening up,” Jedidian said. “I felt like we had a great game plan on both offense and defense going into the game. I would say for two and a half quarters we played pretty well.”

Jedidian said that the mistakes and miscues really hurt his team tonight by throwing two interceptions and not getting any points in the red zone.

Rockville opened the game with a long sustained drive that got them all the way down to the Warhawks’ five-yard line. But after a holding penalty set them back 10 yards, the Rockville offense struggled to punch the ball in for the lead.

The game remained tied at zero for most of the first half until Campbell scored on a 38-yard touchdown run with 16 seconds remaining in the first half.

Bloomfield started to click on offense in the second half fueled by Campbell’s arm.

The quarterback hooked up with Trumell Arnum twice for touchdown passes, including on the Warhawks opening drive of the second half when Campbell found Arnum for a 61 yard scoring strike to give the Warhawks a 13-0 lead.

Rockville then drove the length of the football field, converting a fourth down in the process, to Bloomfield’s 13-yard line facing a fourth and one. Rockville sophomore quarterback Dan Wheeler was then picked off by Modest who raced to the end zone to make it 20-0.

Before the night was over, Campbell would connect with Lionel Edwards for a 50-yard touchdown pass.  Campbell spun around and rolled to his left to avoid pressure from the Rams defense and then threw a bomb into the outstretched hands of Edwards who made a diving catch into the end zone.

Shai Paulding had an interception for Rockville on a throw from Campbell that was deflected straight up into the air. Rami Jadallah contributed a sack for the Rams defense.

Rockville’s next game is at Cheney Tech in Manchester against East Catholic High on Oct. 14.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
