Vernon Students Collect Books, Food Items

Vernon Center Middle School has won the Superintendent's Challenge.

Local students have collected 2,900 books for the Vernon Bookmobile and 1,853 food items for the Hockanum Valley Community Council's pantry.

The winner of the Superintendent's Challenge trophy was School. Students in grades 6 through 8 collected 582 books and 1,378 food items.

The food pantry is located at 29 Naek Rd. It serves residents of Vernon, Tolland and Ellington.

Food Pantry Hours are:

• Monday - 9 a.m. to noon.
• Tuesday - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
• Wednesday - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
• Thursday - 9a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Friday - 9 to noon.
