Teachers Asked for Their Input on Staff Transfers

Responses were due on Friday.

Elementary teachers in the Vernon school system were asked to hand in a form attached to a letter by Friday that sought their ideas on possible staff transfers.

It is the latest step in an administrative plan to reform local schools.

Throughout the process, Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway has maintained there could be some shifting of faculty.

"As you know, we are in the process of enacting educational reform here in Vernon. A piece of that, as an  enabling condition, is organization which includes the placement of staff," the letter states. "The administrative team is meeting soon to make teaching assignments in the interest of the educational benefits of the students."

The letter, dated Thursday, continues, "Currently, there are no new elementary vacancies; therefore, the transfers between buildings will be considered involuntary. However, if the transfer can be made by someone who possesses less seniority than others who might be transferred, due consideration will be given to the senior staff member."

The letter concludes by asking teachers to offer their input by picking the top three schools and the grade level they wish to work with.

The teachers were asked to turn the forms in to their respective principals by the start of school on Friday.
