Start of School Delayed a Day, Meet-and-Greets Canceled

Power outages at schools outlined in open letter from superintendent.

During the last academic year, Vernon had its share of snow days.

Well, the 2011-12 school year is not even a day old and it already has a hurricane day.

Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway outlined the new schedule in an open letter to parents and guardians released on Monday night.

In her letter, she said because of power outages at the elementary schools, the first day of school will now be on Thursday for students in grades Pre-K through 6 and grade 9 and on Friday for students in grades 7 and 8 and grades 10 through 12.

The meet-and-greet sessions scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled.
