Vernon residents woke up to a fresh blanket of snow on Tuesday, thanks to a weather system that moved into the area overnight. 

Schools are opening two hours late.

Good Morning, this is Mary Conway, superintendent of schools in Vernon.

The opening of schools will be delayed for two hours today, Tuesday, March 19, 2013.  I repeat, the opening of schools today, Tuesday, March 19, will be delayed for two hours.

Please travel safely and have a good day.

That means no morning kindergarten.

Here is a weather summary from The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for the remainder of the daylight hours:

Light precipitation is expected during into the early afternoon.

A "short burst" of rain changing over to moderate wet snow may occur early this afternoon for a few hours as colder air wraps around the storm system as it departs to the east. Little additional accumulation is expected and a minor impact is forecast for the afternoon rush hour. 

The precipitation is expected to end completely by 5 p.m.

Total accumulations are expected to range from 1 to 4 inches on the coast to 4 to 6 inches in central Connecticut and up to 5 to 7 inches in the higher elevations of northern Connecticut.
