Several Veteran Teachers Retiring

There is less than a week left in the school year.

Ten teachers are retiring from the school system this year.

Their retirement letters were formally accepted by the Board of Education at its Jan. 9 meeting. The last day of school is June 20.

Those retiring are:

• Vernon Center Middle School - Francis Ashline and Ellen LeSure.

• Maple Street School - Barbara Brahaney Amodio.

• Northeast School- Deborah Luniewsky and Lyn Nielsen.

• Rockville High School - Susan O'Brien, Mark Olsen, Susan Smith and Heather Styckiewicz.

• Skinner Road School - Sherry Bedore. Her retirement was effective Oct. 1.

"We are very grateful for their service to the children of Vernon," Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway said. "This certainly leaves holes in our staff."

"That's a lot of experience," Board of Education Chairman Dean Houle said.

Jill Goldberg is retiring as fine arts coordinator. She has been in the local school system for 35 years.

"It is certainly with regret that we do announce this to you and present Jill Goldberg's resignation to you," Conway told the school board. "We will definitely miss her."

Goldberg taught at Center Road School, Maple Street School and Rockville High School before coordinating the art and music department district wide.
