School System Trying to Fill a Bus for HVCC

The food drive is taking place this week.

The Vernon Education Association, together with the school system's bus provider, First Student and school system administrators are asking townspeople to fill a bus with food items for Hockanum Valley Community Council food pantry.

HVCC chief David Engelson said last week that 920 families will need food at Christmas.

The collection is running until Thursday.

Collection boxes have been placed near the front office of each school and at Central Office.

On Thursday, a school bus will stop at each of the schools
to pick up all food donations.

Engelson said HVCC needs every type of food - main dishes like turkeys and hams - in addition to the non-perishables that can be loaded in the bus.

The HVCC food pantry is located at 29 Naek Rd. in Vernon.
