School Board Introduces New Information Technology Director

Superintendent: "We had a wealth of high quality candidates to choose from."

The Vernon Board of Education Monday night welcomed its new information technology director who will begin with the district after Labor Day.

Kevin R. Lemoi has a strong technology background on his resume. Lemoi received a Master of Science: Computer Technology Education from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science/Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Maine at Machias.

Lemoi will come to Vernon from Raymond, NH, where he currently serves as a directory of technology for the school district there. He manages a four-domain network with 22 servers. He is responsible for overall technology modernization and consolidation as well as technology integration into the classroom. He designed the Raymond district’s fiber optic network. Lemoi established a video network for special education and home based students. Lemoi has experience in writing technology plans and developing and managing technology budgets.

“We had a wealth of high quality candidates to choose from,” Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway said. “We were able to choose the best of the best. Mr. Lemoi comes extremely highly recommended.”

Lemoi also is an adjunct professor at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, where he has designed and taught college level courses. He also teaches day and evening courses for graduate and undergraduate programs. Some courses he has taught include at the undergraduate level – Multimedia Development, Webpage Design, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, Introduction to Astronomy, Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Contemporary Social Issues, Philosophy and Foundations of Ethical Thought. At the graduate level, Lemoi has taught Web-page Design for the Classroom, Video Production in the Classroom, and Introduction to Educational IT Administration. Lemoi is a graduate student thesis advisor at the college.

Lemoi was the chief executive officer and president of Coastal Computer Consulting, Inc., located in Machias, Maine, for 10 years. It was the largest computer consulting firm in Eastern Maine, according to his resume. He supervised eight employees. The company offered design seminars and adult education computer technology courses, which Lemoi taught. Lemoi manages the finances for the company.

Lemoi also developed Mainline.net Internet Services in Maine. It was the first locally owned and operated internet service provider for Machias. Lemoi designed the dial-up network and petitioned for it to become the first DSL provider in Eastern Maine, according to his resume.

Conway pointed out that Lemoi was also a licensed crisis counselor.

Vernon is currently having a technology audit done district-wide.

The IT Director's post was advertised from $84,000 to $90,000. It was budgeted at $81,473 with a travel supplement. Lemoi accepted $86,000 with a $1,200 travel allowance.
