Rockville High School Festival of Bands Scheduled for Oct. 8.

The Marching Ram Band is the defending state champion.

The Rockville High School Marching Ram Band will be hosting its 19th-annual Festival of Bands competition next weekend.

The festival is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at RHS and will feature some of Connecticut’s finest high school marching bands, including:

• Rockville High.
• Manchester High School.
• New London High School.
• Putnam High School.
• Norwich Free Academy.

Each band will perform its own unique precision field show and will be graded by judges from the U.S. Scholastic Band Association on overall effect, visual performance and best music.

The Marching Ram Band will take the field as the defending Class III state champion, as well as the second-place finisher in the New England regional competition.

The band is under the direction of Darcy Davis. It performs at football games and in several band competitions and parades around the state. The season culminates with the New England regional competition in Bridgeport on Nov. 5.

In an average season, each band member logs more than 300 hours in practice, competitions, parades and community service.

The Marching Ram Band's 2011 show, Visions of America, features music from Aaron Copeland. 

Food and drink will be available the night of the show.
