Rockville High's Kaitlyn Lajoie Heading to the University of Bridgeport

She will pitch and major in criminal justice.

Rockville High School Senior Kaitlyn Lajoie will be taking her softball and academic talents to the University of Bridgeport next year.

Lajoie signed her national letter of intent on Friday at the RHS athletic offices.

She plans to major in criminal justice at UB and pursue a law carer.

"I'm excited," Lajoie said in a phone interview afterward. "Bridgeport has a really good criminal justice program. I also get along great with the softball team."

Lajoie made an official visit in September and said it was a good experience. She also considered the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Athletes in spring sports are often put in precarious positions because they are often committing to colleges before their final high school seasons. Lajoie said it feels good to have the pressure off.

Now she can concentrate on RHS defending its state title.

"I'm excited now about high school," she said. "It's stressful deciding what you want to do for the reset of your life. It's a great feeling heading into the season. It makes you pumped up to hopefully repeat."
