RHS Principal to get Letter Outlining Discipline Today

School board members decided the terms in a Tuesday executive session.

Disciplinary measures for a driving under the influence charge last month are out of the hands of Board of Education members and should be into the hands of Rockville High School Principal Eric Baim late this morning.

The school board voted on his internal punishment on Tuesday. Baim was charged with DUI and running a stop sign in Berlin in mid-July. The board has already decided not to fire him, but instead levy alternative punishments. His case is pending in the court system.

At 6:28 p.m., school board members went into executive session to discuss disciplinary measures presented by Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway.

At 7:37, board members were back in pubic session and a motion was put on the floor to approve the measures discussed in executive session. The measures were not outlined in the motion.

Republicans Laura Bush, Anne Fischer, Dean Houle and David Kemp were present as were Democrats Kyle Percy, Michelle Arn, and Terri Goldich.

Kemp and Arn voted against the measure and Arn was visibly annoyed after the vote, but did not comment because of executive session commenting restrictions.

Disciplinary measures taken against school system employees are public record under state freedom of information law, but the board is allowed to discuss them in executive session before making them official. Once an official document is sent to Baim, then it must be released to the public.

Conway said the formal letter outlining the punishment should be delivered to Baim late this morning.
