Junior Women, Police Again Offering Visits to Safety Town

Safety Town Program designed to teach the basics to those entering kindergarten.

The Vernon Junior Women’s Club and the Vernon Police Department are again sponsoring the Safety Town program for children entering kindergarten this fall.

Safety Town is a one-week class in which pre-kindergarten children receive safety instruction in preparation for elementary school.

The program, conducted by the VJWC, runs for two weeks during the summer and covers areas like traffic safety, fire safety, bus safety, bicycle safety, an awareness of the dangers of poisons and medicines and awareness of strangers.

This year, Safety Town will be conducted at Lake Street School in Vernon.

The sessions will be held July 11 through 15 and July 18 through 22.

The morning sessions run from 8:30 to 10:30am and the afternoon sessions run from 11 a.m to. 1 p.m.

Registration costs $25 per child.
