Social Skills Groups

Are you a parent, friend, or family member of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, PDD, ADHD, or shyness? Help is on the way! Social skills groups are set to begin the first week in May and will be held at the Tolland Recreation Department. Children will be grouped according to age and other developmental criteria. Groups are available for children 3-18 years old.

Social skills groups involve activities carefully selected to provide therapeutic opportunities to learn, practice, and develop social skills necessary to foster and maintain friendships. Sessions are designed to support the development of pragmatic skills such as:

  • Sustaining Friendships
  • Resiliency
  • Recognizing Social Cues
  • Interpreting Facial Expressions
  • Handling Teasing and Bullying
  • Pragmatic Language Skills
  • Maintaining Eye Contact
  • Recognizing Emotions in Self & Others
  • Developing Patterns & Styles of Conversations
