Community Conversation Termed a Success

School officials are hailing the first “Community Conversation about Education” as a success.

The event took place last week at Rockville High School.

The featured topic was “Vernon is Changing – What does this Mean for Our Community?” Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway said the goal was, “to produce an open, unbiased and non-threatening conversation that examines public views to identify common ground for possible action on important issues in education.”

More than 125 people from Vernon representing “diverse backgrounds” attended, Conway said.

Participants were separated into seven small discussion groups.

“The participants acknowledged the challenges and realities of education in Vernon and generated ideas and action steps for schools, families and the community to work together to improve Vernon public schools,” Conway said. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Board of Education building.
