Bolton/Coventry/Rockville Shuts Out Wethersfield, Qualifies for Tournament

BCR scored less than a minute into the contest.

The Bolton/Coventry/Rockville hockey team qualified for state tournament play on Monday with a 5-0 win over Wethersfield at the Newington Arena.

BCR goaltender Cameron Earle made 24 saves to record the shutout.

Just 30 seconds from the opening face-off J.R. Piretti scored, unassisted to make it 1-0. Mike Leardi scored Piretti and Bruce Smith at the 7:22 mark to make it 2-0 at the end of the first period.

In the second, Seth Alexanderowicz unassisted at 10:19 and Piretti scored from Liam McGrath and Mike Leardi at 14:18.

"The goal by J.R. Piretti just 30 seconds into the game gave us a much-needed quick start," BCR coach Christian Stewvenson said. "His second goal to close the second period really seemed to take some of the wind out of the opponents' sails as up to that point, they were really coming at us. Cam Earle really stood tall as we gave Wethersfield several chances prior that goal."

In the third, Hunter Byram finished the scoring when he converted a feed from Piretti at 13:59.

BCR is now 8-1.

BCR is scheduled to play Newington on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Newington Arena.
