Assistant Superintendent of Schools Announces Her Retirement

Deborah Murasso has been in the Vernon system for 36 years.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Deborah Murasso is retiring after 36 years in the Vernon school system.

She had held positions in various capacities both as a teacher and administrator.

Am emotional Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway made the announcement at Monday's Board of Education meeting. The board made a motion to accept the retirement letter with regrets, but also publicly thanked Murasso for her years of service.

Murasso was also emotional as she thanked "my many colleagues" over the years.

Murasso said she is looking forward to the "gift of time to travel, spend time with family members and "to pursue new interests."

Besides, she said, "My husband retired last year and I can't let him have all the fun."

Murasso will retire at the end of of the school year.
