Updated: Ad Posted for Elementary School Principal

Administration is undergoing reform.

Updated: Tuesday 1:07 p.m.

The town's public school system is advertising for an elementary school principal, but the administration is not commenting on what school or which administrator it might be replacing.

Elementary schools in Vernon are for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade.

Replacing administrators is one aspect of a education reform initiative preferred over other suggested reform packages from the state.

Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway has maintained there could be "some staff movement" on a few occasions when speaking about academic reform.

Conway released the following statement regarding the ad:

"As part of the required reform efforts, we will replace principals and ensure that the right resources (teachers) are with our neediest students.  There will be movement for 2012-2013.  No decisions have been made at this time.  We are not making any announcements because no appointments have been made."

She is also in the process of implementing an intensive language arts curriculum.

The job description ad says: "The Administration is seeking a person qualified by education and experience to carry out the duties assigned to the position and in general, to establish and maintain a high level of standards of excellence in the Vernon Public Schools.  This position will begin on or about August 1, 2012."
