A Mobile Concession Stand Could be Coming to a Game in Vernon

The school system's business manager is exploring the possibility.

The old snack shack at Rockville High School could soon give way to a state-of-the-art - and mobile - concession stand that could be used for multiple events and fund-raisers.

Board of Education Director of Business and Finance Michael Purcaro on Tuesday was charged by the school board's Finance Committee with compiling a report on the concept of a mobile concession stand.

The report will include:

• The terms of ownership and liability that comes with it.

• Cost.

• Potential grant funding for the project.

• The quality of food that would be served at games and other events.

Currently, there is a stationary snack shack that is used at the main field at Rockville High School. It can only be used for events at the stadium.

It is estimated that it would cost $30,000 to $40,000 to bering the shack up to modern food service standards, Purcaro said.  For the same price, a mobile concession stand can be acquired and used for any sporting event at any field, Purcaro said.

It could also be used at non-school venues - like the annual July in the Sky fireworks celebration - for fund-raising purposes," Purcaro said.

The mobile concession stand would be equipped with a full commercial kitchen and it could be towed using fleet pickup trucks, Purcaro said.

Several booster clubs have signed onto the project, Purcaro said.
