Talcottville Memorial Sunday Parade

The annual Memorial Sunday Parade in Talcottville commenced this past weekend, and this year drew quite a crowd! Each Memorial Day weekend the Talcottville Congregational Church (T.C.C.) puts on a Sunday Parade, marching through the streets of this quaint historic district.
Residents watched from their front yards as The Colonel John Chester Fife and Drum Corps lead the way, beginning at the church parking lot and moving down Main Street, and through Mount Hope Cemetery to the Civil War Monument.
Also marching this year were the Elks color Guard, the Boy Scout Color Guard, the American Legions Jonathan Worley, in addition to the Mayor of Vernon Mr. George Apel. Dozens of townspeople followed by foot, bike, scooter, pushing baby carriages, even riding their John Deere's! The wonderful people at T.C.C. provided everyone with patriotic balloons, and American flags.
Behind us were three vintage cars, the first carrying Abraham Lincoln in a 1964 black Mustang who gave a brief version of his Gettysburg Address. Pastor Wayne Hanson from T.C.C. gave a moving service on equality, the healing of the Nation, and how one day war will be no more.  Speeches from the Mayor, and Veterans followed. We sang "God Bless America", and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Jonathan Worley finished the ceremony with a beautiful rendition of TAPS.
It may have been a fairly frigid morning for the end of May, but that didn't keep anyone here from showing their thanks, and giving remembrance to the men and women who served our country.
