Winter Recipes to Warm Up Your Dinner Table

Winter dishes your family will love!

I am so glad to be back at the laptop after 6 wonderful months of new-mommying. So, whats my back-to-blogging topic? Cooking! Its been absolutely freezing out 'round these parts lately, and most likely your family has been craving hot dishes at the dining room table rather than burgers on the grill or s'mores around the camp fire. By this time of the Winter the same old dinners can become monotonous. Want to make supper savory? Looking to perk up the pot roast? Challenge your chicken, or better your beef? For the next week I will indulge you all with warm and welcoming dishes your family will drool for-tested and approved by the Summers residents themselves. So, whats tonight's recipe?

Potato Kielbasa Skillet Recipe

  • 5 large potatoes, cut in bite sized chunks
  • 1 lb kielbasa, sliced(2 whole kielbasas)
  • 1 c chopped onion
  • 1 c chopped green peppers
  • 1 c chopped red peppers
  • 2 T vegetable oil
  • minced garlic
  • 1 t oregano
  • 1 t basil
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/4 t pepper
  • 1 1/2 c shredded American cheese (optional)

STOVE TOP:  In dutch oven, brown potatoes, kielbasa, onion and peppers in oil.
Add seasonings and water. Bring to a boil.  Cover tightly and cook for 20 minutes,on low, stirring occasionally.  Uncover and put cheese on top. Simmer until cheese is melted.

OVEN ROASTED - I mix everything together in a large bowl (minus water & cheese) and thoroughly coat.  Dump it in the dutch oven and roast in 475°oven for 20-30 minutes, turning occasionally for brown potatoes!

My family loved this dish! Even the Kindergarteners ...and, they're hard to please!  Hope this dish makes you look like a culinary genius!

It is sad that you have to perpetuate the negativity that has plagued an otherwise wonderful schoolRead More district. If you think that Vernon is in the "Bottom 30" because for the last 2 weeks your child has done nothing but watch movies, that is even sadder. However I do have this question for you, how do you know that is all they have done? Have you called the teacher and asked him or her? I have always found that at times what my child has said is exaggerated. I like to talk to the adult before just taking the word of my child. Maybe they are watching them part of the day which I am sure happens in any district, even ones in the top 20, at the end of the school year. However, if you are not happy with Vernon there are other options out there, instead of slamming your school system through media.

I seriously doubt what you say is accurate. To say that is all that has happened for two weeks seemsRead More like a gross exaggeration. Do teachers who have to move classrooms enlist the help if students to pack boxes & clean the room? Absolutely. Are their important lessons to be learned in this? I think so. Students are part of a community that which takes the efforts of everyone in it to operate. Students typically enjoy this ritual as a means to feel they are a contributing member of their school community. They like reflecting on what they have done as they help remove things from the walls and put supplies and books into boxes, awaiting the next group of children. It is absolutely not a waste of time. If you cannot imagine the value it has, visit a classroom going through this process and you will have a better understanding.
