NEASC Meets the Rock

NEASC stands for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It is a regional accreditation association for all levels of education in the United States. The time has come for Rockville High School to be the subject of viewing by this group. For the past two years students have been let out of school early for teacher “NEASC meeting days”. Many initiatives have been discussed that will change our school for the better.

This past year I have seen lunch routines changed, attendance policies tightened, and overall school security advanced.

The past week there has been a group of these NEASC representatives that have spent a large amount of time in our school. I was chosen to be one of the students to give a group of adults a tour of our school on Monday morning, I was both nervous and excited. My plan was to pick up a key from Mr. Brewer and then make my way to the Career Center to greet my group.

The tour was actually pretty enjoyable. I was glad to be able to answer questions that the people had and show off all of the fantastic departments and aspects of Rockville High School that sometimes would otherwise go unnoticed. I told them personal stories and I think that they enjoyed hearing an honest opinion from a student who appreciates RHS.

I am proud to have gone to Rockville High School for the past four years. I will admit that there are aspects that I believe need to be worked on and things that need to be changed, but I cannot think of a high school that doesn’t have areas that need improvement. Rockville High School is a place with an infinite amount of resources and opportunities. We have a thriving agriculture department. Through our Creative Writing department I have had the opportunity to co-write the Murder Mystery, our winter play, and watch it be performed. The RHS Creative Writers have swept up wins in numerous competitions across the state and nation. The students at Rockville High School have the opportunity to be a part of our nursery school, where we actually plan and run a school for parents to send their children to—many years there is a waiting list for this. I am a student who has excelled at Rockville High. I have made many friends, connections, and memories through all of the opportunities that my school has provided me with. As NEASC considers all of the aspects it needs to while deciding the fate of Rockville High School, I hope it keeps in mind the opinions of students such as myself. I have enjoyed myself in the past four years of my high school career and someday will take pride in calling myself a Rockville High alumni.
