Prom.
Four letters. One word. A million problems.
What dress to wear? What transportation to use? What food to eat? Who to bring? And the list goes on and on. One night can change a life, but the same night can ruin a life just as fast.
For some, prom is the perfect time to express yourself and show off, but for others it's just another thing to try and fit you into the mold of an acceptable society.
What is the purpose of spending $400 on a frilly dress that isn't you style that you're only going to wear for a few hours at most? And God forbid your parents are the ones driving you. Oh no, it's much more logical to spend an extra $1,000 dollars for a 20-minute limo ride.
Then you come to the issue of who to bring. Apparently just going with friends is no longer an acceptable option. You have to pursue some guy that is way out of your league, only to get shut down and end up going with your friends anyways.
Oh well. I guess an eternity of embarrassment isn't so bad. I guess there's always next year, right?
Wrong.
Next year will only be as disappointing if not more than this one.
Prom is not a right of passage. It's an over exaggerated expensive date. Save your money, leave the itchy dress on the rack, buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's and watch some movies instead.
