Visions for Vacancies: Tapping Maple Street

What would be the best use for a corner lot?

Vernon Patch loves your input. So, in a column called Visions for Vacancies, we present a vacant building or parcel of land and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use for it.

Yes, we have zoning regulations, but put all of that aside for now and concentrate on what you would like to see there or what would be the best use for the community. Tell is in the comments.

This time around, we are featuring a lot fresh on the market - 8 Maple St. The Town Council recently decided to get the land off the books and offer it on the open market through a real estate brokerage.

It was seized as a tax delinquency.

It's right in the heart of Rockville on a corner lot near Maple Street School.

So what should go there?

School parking lot!! No question about it.

I agree that it should be looked into if we really want to sell this property at this time. A parking lot for Maple Street School would alleviate the parking problems they are having. This is a residential lot that would support no business activity. It is too close to a School Zone. Maple Street School has many children that walk to school. So if the zoning changed the zone to a business zone it would have to be one that generates no traffic. This lot will probably sell for no more than $20,000 to $25,000 dollars. Do we as a town really want to give it up at this time? It would not need to be paved to make it into a parking lot.
