Visions for Vacancies: Land Right Smack in the Middle of Route 30

What should go there?

Vernon Patch loves your input. So, in a column called Visions for Vacancies, we present a vacant building - in the case of this week a vacant lot on a busy commercial section of town - and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use for it.

Yes, we have zoning regulations, but put all of that aside for now and concentrate on what you would like to see there or what would be the best use for the community.

Today, we are featuring a parcel near a church and commuter lot on Hartford Turnpike.

So what should go there?

About this column: About this column: In highlighting vacant buildings in Vernon, we are aiming to help residents take a proactive role in planning and building their community. We'll take your feedback to public officials and property owners. Know of a vacant building we should highlight? Tell us in the comments below, or e-mail Vernon Patch editor Chris Dehnel at chris.dehnel@patch.com.

This piece of property should not be looked at unto itself but how it fits into the area surrounding it. The last know proposals were the existing commuter lot or building 375.. Some time in the future a transportation center will be placed in that vicinity. This property could be used for additional commuter parking. I know this would sound abhorrent to many (another parking lot) but if you look at many metropolitan areas one of the many obstacles for using public transportation is public parking for cars, bikes etc. that feed into the transportation center.

We don't need another commuter lot in town especially far up on RTE 30. The land would be better suited for another business like a restaurant

I'd like to see a Bob Evans restaurant. I know its outside their normal zone operations, but they have good family type food.

I have to go with the idea of a parking lot. The piece of land seems small to handle a restaurant. It also sits in between two already empty restaurants.

Too small for many businesses

We need a family run burgers & ice cream stand in this town! A year round building would be good, but lots of outside seating for warm weather. Right off the highway would be a lucrative spot!
