Mayor: Zoning, Building and Development Offices Moving to One Location

Mayor orders everything to 55 West Main St. today.

Mayor Jason McCoy has ordered the consolidation of all functions related to building, zoning and development departments into the municipal building at 55 West Main St.

And the move is taking place today. The building is just down the hill from Town Hall. Currently, building, zoning and development functions are spread between the two facilities.

McCoy said on Tuesday that he wanted to get everything to 55 West Main St. by the end of the week. On Thursday, he said everything will be in motion today.

Renovations to the second floor of the building were completed on Thursday, McCoy said.

"It's something that should have been done a long time ago, and I wanted to make sure it was done before I left office," McCoy said on Thursday.

The consolidation has been a virtual campaign promise for everyone running for mayor and Town Council throughout the campaign. Now, with less than two weeks before voters head to the local polls on Nov. 8, that topic is off the table.

McCoy said discussions about locating the building, zoning and development functions in the same building can be traced back to 2000. He said serious discussions have been taking place at department head meetings this year.

Social services functions will be moved to Town Hall, also today, McCoy said, where, "it makes the most sense."

"Locating social services at town hall will better serve the clients it is intended to serve," he said. "It will be easier to find, for one thing."
