Week of April 25, 2011: A New Principal and Budget?

The school board is a scheduled to vote on a new principal and the council is slated to present the budget.

The Board of Education is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 at the administration building.

Agenda highlights:

• The school board will vote on the appointment of Michael Cain as prinicpal of Vernon Center Middle School. He is currently the principal of Kelly Middle School in Norwich.

• The school board will discuss the donation of art books to Rockville High School.

• The school board will review the academic year's calendar.

U.S. Rep. Joseph Courtney and Mayor Jason McCoy will conduct a news conference at 5 p.m. today at the West Street Fire Headquarters to formally announce a federal grant for fire departments of more than $195,000.

The Annual Town Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Rockville High School auditorium.

Agenda highlights:

• The mayor calls the meeting to order.

• The town clerk reads the the meeting notice.

• The moderator is declared.

• A public forum will commence on the proposed $79.29 million budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

• Residents and eligible taxpayers will vote on the proposed  $79.29 million proposed budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

The Town Council is scheduled to convene a special meeting on Tuesday immediately following the Annual Town Meeting.

Agenda highlights:

• Set a tax rate for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

• Authorize the collection of motor vehicle taxes in a single installment.
