Town Departments Teaming Up For FoodShare

The Mayor has issued the challenge.

Departments across the lines of all municipal government are staging a friendly competition to be benefit FoodShare.

It's been dubbed "Mayor Apel's Challenge." Basically, Mayor George Apel has chosen up sides to form four teams. Those teams will work together in an effort to collect the most food possible. The donations will be delivered to the third floor of Town Hall each Friday, where they will be counted and stored.

The competition will take place through the end of the month.

On Nov. 2, the winning team will be served breakfast by Mayor Apel - at his expense - and the food will be officially handed over to FoodShare.

Here are the team breakdowns:

Team 1 - Department of Public Works.

Team 2- Parks and recreation, town clerk, tax collector,
administration, assessor, engineering, planning and economic
development, social services, animal control, youth services and
registrars of voters.

Team 3 - WPCA, information technology, cemetery, Senior Center,
finance, building, fire marshal and probate.

Team 4 - Police Department.

"It is my hope that through our team spirit and our non-perishable food item collection, we can make a difference in the lives of our citizens for the upcoming holiday season," Apel said.
