Tax Sale on Tap for Thursday Morning

The tax sale is slated to 10 a.m.

The town has a tax sale scheduled for this morning - Thursday - at Town Hall for properties with tax delinquencies on the books.

At the sale each winning bidder will get a deed to the property itself, absent a redemption, town officials said.

The sale is schedule to commence at 10 in the council chambers on the third floor.

A tax sale is a public auction of property, the purchase price of which goes to paying delinquent taxes or similar assessments. It can be conducted on any real estate owned by an individual or business which has failed to pay any kind of tax, sewer charge, or similar debt (whether it was assessed on that real estate or not) owed to a city, town, borough, taxing district, or other municipal authority.

Town officials said bidders must attend the auction in person and bring with them a valid ID, a social security or FEIN number, and a $5,000 deposit per property in certified funds or cash (no personal checks).
