School System Designated for More ECS Funding

The governor has released his education plan and it calls for 3.81 percent more to Vernon.

Vernon's schools are to receive more than $600,000 in additional Educational Cost Sharing funding in a program announced by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy on Wednesday.

It is part of his proposal to reform education from early childhood through college. In all, an additional $50 million in ECS funding has been earmarked for schools, Malloy said.

Vernon has 3,735 students, according to the state ECS formula. It's ECS entitlement is currently $17,645,165, according to a chart supplied by Malloy's office, and that amount is slated to increase to $18,316,776.

That works out to 3.81 percent more overall and $180 more per pupil, according to the chart.

Under the governor's plan, 130 towns will receive more ECS funding for the 2012-13 fiscal year than they did this year and no town will experience a drop in funding.

No one is losing ECS funding—which sends a clear signal to our children that we will make the investment and deliver on our promise of high-quality education for every student in Connecticut.

Vernon has also been designated a Conditional District, the governor said. An explanation is included in the attached chart.
