School Officials Release Budget Presentation Schedule

Board of Education members will see the figures on Jan. 13.

Budget season officially begins on Friday the 13th this year.

School officials have released the education budget schedule for the 2012-13 fiscal year and it begins with the delivery of Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway's budget to Board of Education members on Jan. 13 - a Friday.

The rest of the education budget schedule is as follows:

• Jan. 17, 6 to 8 p.m. - Formal presentation of the superintendent's 2012-13 budget, school administration building.

• Jan. 24, 6 to 8 p.m. - Board of Education budget workshop, school administration building.

• Jan. 31, 6 to 8 p.m. - Board of Education budget workshop, school administration building.

• Feb. 6, 6 p.m. - Special Board of Education meeting to approve 2012-13 budget.

• Feb. 10 - Education budget delivered to the town.

Public comment will be taken at the end of the Jan. 17 budget presentation at at the beginning of the Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 6 meetings.

The school system's budget for the current fiscal year totals $47.4 million. In all, Vernon's 2011-12 budget totals $79.2 million. The tax rate went down from 30.02 mills to 29.02 mills, an average savings of $15 per single-family dwelling.
