School Board Meets, Ribbons Are Cut

Creative writers are honored.

Here's what happened in government this week.

Mayor Jason McCoy cut ribbons to officially open two businesses:

• A Dunkin' Donuts in the lafayette Square shopping plaza.

• The R House Restaurant on Hartford Turnpike.

The Board of Education met on Monday. A summary of the meeting incudes:

• Award Winners from Victoria Nordlund's creative writing classes were honored.

• Edward Argenta and students from Vernon Center Middle School provided an overview of their recent trip to the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Argenta noted that this was the 42nd year that Administration and the Board of Education have supported the trip. A total of 20 VCMS and three high school students attended.

•  Rockville High School has requested approval of an overnight field trip for three of its  agricultural students to attend the National FFA Organization Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. from July 12 to 17. Superintendent Mary Conway has approved this field trip request.

Donations:

• $150 to the Center Road School library from the Belcourt family.
• $500 to Project Graduation from the SBM Charitable Foundation.
• $200 to the Skinner Road School library from the family of Sojung Kim.

• Vicky Rispoli resigned from the school board.
