School Board Calls Special Meeting to Discuss the Fate of a "School Administrator"

It would be the second round of discussion after RHS principal's DUI charge.

The Board of Education has called a special meeting for Tuesday night to discuss the future of a "school administrator."

The school board is scheduled to convene at 7 p.m. at the school administration building.

It is a public meeting, but there is no public comment segment on the agenda. Because it is a personnel matter, board members could meet in executive session before voting in open session.

The meeting's lone wordy agenda item reads: "Discussion and Possible Action Upon a Recommendation from the Superintendent Regarding the Consideration of Termination of a School Administrator."

Parenthetically, a possible executive session is indicated.

The most recent administrator likely subject to discipline is Rockville High School Principal Eric Baim, who was charged with running a red light and driving under the influence in Berlin at 1:53 a.m. on July 13. Baim was  booked and released with a court date of July 27. Last week, the school board discussed Baim at length in exeuctive session.

Baim is on paid administrative leave and is working out of the central office.

Berlin Assistant Chief John Klett said that Baim was observed running a red light at the intersection of the Berlin Turnpike and Spruce Brook Road.

Baim's vehicle was pulled over and Baim failed a standardized field sobriety test, police said. A a breath test at headquarters produced a blood alcohol level of "over twice the legal limit" of .08 percent, Klett said.

Klett said he never has and will not release an official number on the breath test.

Klett also said Baim did not identify himself as the Rockville High School principal. He described Baim as being "polite" during the incident.

Baim lives in Bristol.

Public reaction on Baim's future has been mixed - from demanding his firing to using the incident as a "learning" tool to many students and parents calling for a second chance while praising his efforts at RHS.
